New Magic features - By Donna Tunney
Carnival Magic sailed Venice, for open Adriatic. Gerry Cahill, line’s president & CEO: "We’re going after the 'destination within a ship' idea."
The "destination" SportSquare, an outdoor recreation zone of "branded experiences" including SkyCourse, a 230ft ropes course suspended above the ship’s top deck. SkyCourt, of basketball, volleyball & football of free play + structured tournaments. SkyFitness is an outdoor weight-training circuit, & Turf on Surf is a miniature golf course. "What we did was try to create more places for memorable experiences," said Cahill. Some new products are likely to be replicated on other Carnival ships. The addition of two major restaurants brings the concept indoors.
Red Frog Pub, private-label ThirstyFrog Red beer; live music; darts, checkers and chess. Cucina del Capitano, family-style Italian restaurant, was also popular. "These are places where we believe guests will want to hang out," Cahill said. WaterWorks for families to play, 300-gallon Power Drencher drenching and delighting the kids (and adults) who wait to fill up and spill over. With a "lighter, brighter and more open," Cahill said.
